Detlef Grundmann 1015 Malloch Rd., Victoria, BC (Metchosin) 250-474-1957 • Email: dgrundmann@stinkingfishstudiotour.com After several years as a self-taught amateur woodworker, Detlef escaped the corporate world in 2001, and came to Metchosin, a rural community just west of Victoria, to concentrate on his woodworking. Surrounded by trees and nature, he is inspired to create a range of woodworking, from small functional items, such as cutting boards and rolling pins, to unique boxes, to one-of-a-kind furniture pieces. Detlef believes in the natural beauty of wood, and primarily produces works made from solid wood. Many of his pieces are made of locally sourced woods, such as Western Maple and Garry Oak. He focuses on both the technical with solid construction techniques, as well as the aesthetic, with designs that complement the wood (and vice versa). Incorporating clean lines, curves and natural shapes are a signature of his style. Detlef is a member of the Furniture Society and the Vancouver Island Woodworkers Guild. click to enlarge
